Festivals in Laguna

We cannot deny the fact that Filipinos and even tourists enjoy festivities in our country. . Whenever there is a good excuse for throwing a party and getting together with relatives and friends, the chance is most likely to be exploited every time. Some of our festivals have been inspired in the 1500s by the Spanish period. We concentrate on religious traditions while combining other festivals with the country’s important historical events. There are a variety of festivals throughout the year in the Philippines.

Listed below are some of the major festivals that happen in Laguna.

1. Anilag Festival

Every month of March, people in Sta. Cruz, Laguna hosted the annual Anilag Festival. Although this fiesta has been celebrated for only a few years, for most people living in Laguna it has become an important occasion. During the second week of March, the Anilag Festival is held annually. "Anilag" is a short term for "Ani ng Laguna," meaning "Laguna crop." Initially commemorated to celebrate the day of this region's creation. Anilag festival is a week-long event that focuses on thanksgiving for the wealth generated by their flourishing agriculture tourist attractions that can only be found in Laguna. You would definitely enjoy watching the street dance competition, float contest, and other music competitions. Various events are organized to drum up the passions and engagement of all. If you want to buy a souvenir or local delicacies, you can easily find one in the stalls and shops on display.

2. Coconut Festival

The Coconut Festival was born out of the need to celebrate this amazing crop because of the value of the fruit. In memory of their patron Saint Paul the Hermit, the Coconut Festival is a week-long tradition held in the municipality of San Pablo in Laguna. The celebration started in 1996. The Coconut Festival of San Pablo City, also known as Coco Fest, brings more colors to the festival of the city which takes place every January. The festival is a thanksgiving celebration for the biggest plant of pride in the town: the coconut. San Pablo is well known for its proliferation of coconut trees, which has provided all the residents of the city with many opportunities for life. This draws both local and national media and people from nearby towns and foreigners. It strengthens San Pablenos ' culture and traditions. The lively float parade and street dance contest can be enjoyed by visitors. Both athletes spend a lot of resources and effort each year bringing home the big awards. Such two major events have attracted a lot of photographers. Look out for the dances around the saint's statue at the beginning of the Coconut Festival. An exciting part of the festival is also the evening sessions.

3. Pinya Festival

The municipality of Calaulan in Laguna is known for its celebration of the Pineapple Festival takes place during the 15th day of May. The town originated from the word "Kalawang," which means rust. It has been reported that lumps of rust have risen and softly floated on a water body called Macalawang Spring for decades.Calauan's patron saint is Isidore the Laborer, the farmer's patron, known as San Isidro Labrador in Spanish. The annual event started in 1999. The aim of the festival is to promote Calauan's pineapple and other agricultural products. Trade Fair Show features local products from the region, most of them pineapple items such as delicacies and pinya fabric-textile made from pinya leaves, and is the cloth used for the Philippine indigenous clothes, the barong. Without the float parade, the festival will not be complete. With beautiful floats portraying each of the barangay of the city, and the much anticipated Mardigras Street Dancing Competition with various schools participating with the students wearing colorful costumes.

4. Itik Festival

The municipality of Victoria is a fourth-class municipality in the province of Laguna. Since Pateros became heavily urbanized and densely populated, Victoria became a balut traders’ destination and became the "Duck Raising Center of the Philippines". Itik is Victoria's main product. This small, busy city is the center of the province's duck industry. Every second week of November, Victoria celebrates its Itik Festival. The festival is held to commemorate how the municipality has been honored by itik. Several visitors and students from the other city have toured to see how itik was born and see goods from itik. One of the highlights of the Itik Festival is the street dance of participants from public and private schools. There's even been given lots of itik delicacies during the festival.

5. Tsinelas Festival

The footwear industry inherited by today's generation is continually improving through local government effort. The city became one of Laguna's most famous tourist destinations. Thanks to its fashionable and in-style range of slippers, boots, and sandals, their various types of footwear are popular throughout the Philippines. The Gat Tayaw Tsinelas Festival of the Municipality of Liliw is an annually celebrated festival that took place during the last week of April. This festival, based on its name, presents the primary industry of the said "Footwear Capital of Laguna."

The festival features the parade of floats showing the agricultural and industrial products of Liliw, which includes a variety of locally produced shoes. The festival booths highlight the rich history of the town of Liliw, and in addition to these attractions, the Municipal Government of Liliw has planned a lot of fun events that everyone will certainly enjoy. Apart from their shoe industry, the peaceful town of Liliw is also known for its sweet and powdery cookies called Uraro or sometimes called Araro.

6. Batingaw Festival

The Batingaw Festival commemorates the legendary "Kampanang Ginto" which Cabuyao known. Cabuyao used to be known as the "richest municipality in the Philippines" because of the vast populace of migrants working in the town's industrial estates, and celebration always begins with the simultaneous ringing of church bells, which Cabuyeños believe that it brings the adequate agricultural harvest.

The pinnacle of the five days festival encompasses the parade of the floats of each barangay. Furthermore, the decorations of every float feature and advertise the way of living in the community of barangay Cabuyao. Also, Kampanang Ginto, glowing street dancing, singing contest, trade fair exhibits, Mutya and Lakan ng Cabuyao and fireworks.

7. Sambalilo Festival

Cavinti is a third class municipality in the province of Laguna in the Philippines. It is situated in the Sierra Madre mountain range, and part of the 4th congressional district of Laguna. The occasion is a peak with an Agricultural & Trade & Craft Exhibit, which will display & sell different types of sambalilos, pandan has woven items and other agricultural products from Cavinti.

The Sambalilo Festival is one of the most glowing and prosperous festivals in the province of Laguna. The festival showcases the Sambalilo, or hat, a native handicraft made from leaves of pandan, an indigenous plant that grows in abundance in Cavinti. The festival ten (10) day stretch filled with cultural presentation activities, “mga katutubong palaro” (native sports) & a variety of games including water sports like “Karera ng banka” (manual boat race) with Lumot Lake as a venue.

8. Kawayan Festival

Famy is a small municipality in Laguna. The place is not like any other places in Laguna that are well-known. Even Famy is a small municipality, the people there are very hospitable. The culture that they are celebrating every year is called Famy Day Kawayan Festival.

Famy includes a Street Dancing Competition where-in they compete with their neighbours wearing fancy costumes that could show them the symbol of being a Famyleño. Before, Famy was just a part of Siniloan Laguna, now they have their municipality. They are celebrating the Famy Day Kawayan Festival on the exact day where they become an independent municipality.
