The province of Laguna is on the southeast part of Luzon and is one of the accessible provinces from Manila. For people who are looking for a quick break from stress and city life, Laguna is an ideal and perfect place to spend the holiday weekend. Aside from the numerous Hot Spring resorts in Pansol and Los Baños, the province offer more fun and exciting activities and attractions that you will surely not want to miss. 

From the beautiful nature hikes, magnificent waterfalls, up to the old houses and baroque churches, Laguna has it all. Listed below are some of the leisure and sports activities to do in Laguna.

1. Tsinelas Shopping in Liliw, Laguna

Tsinelas are one of the most fashionable accessories that trend in the Philippines. You can find a lot of pairs in a small town of Liliw, Laguna which known as the Footwear Capital of Laguna as was also considered as the Tsinelas Capital of the Philippines.

For a long time now, the tsinelas industry has been a pioneer source of income in Liliw. Some of them are skilled shoemakers. Before, when there are no large and high-tech shoe machinery, slippers and boots are handmade, making it durable and longer-lasting to use.

The Gat Tayaw Street Street in Liliw, Laguna has over 80 shoe shops. Most buyers are dealers, retailers and wholesalers who sometimes label Liliw's products with their own labels. One of the most popular shoe shops you can visit in Gat Tayaw street was Entrada, this shop may be the most expensive tsinelas seller, but the quality of their products is worth the price.

Since 2002, the town of Liliw, Laguna celebrates their Gat Tayaw Tsinelas festival during the week of April. The festival's highlights are the float parade that showcases Liliw's agricultural and industrial products, including a variety of local footwear.

2. Picnic at the UPLB Freedom Park

The UPLB Freedom Park is located near the Pete River in the municipality of Los Baños, province of Laguna. The length of UPLB Freedom Park is 1.32 km.

Freedom Park is always full of energy at daytime. People like to go in here, especially on weekends, and one of the must-to-do in this park was picnicking on its wide ground. There are also benches installed around the park when you can do chatting with your friends or even meet some people. You can also see other who's playing Frisbee, flying their kites, walk with their animals, reading alone and even jog around the field. It is also an ideal place for sports and outdoor activities.

The José Rizal Carillon Tower is at the top of a large acacia tree. The tower is named after our national hero, Jose Rizal, symbolizes the unity of the students and their connection to the university and community. There was also a large tree which is known as the Fertility Tree.

The Fertility Tree is a popular place for joggers, sports players and students who are looking for a ray of sunshine during their studies during the day.

3. Swim at the Bato Springs Resort

Bato Springs is just a 2-hour drive from Manila, nestled between Mt. Cristóbal and Mt. Banahaw. It's a great place to relax with nature because the ambience of the area is surrounded by green leaves and trees that makes it more refreshing.

The main characteristic of the Bato Springs is its flowing and robust river which comes directly from the Mt. Banahaw, along with the trees which make it very hard to tell the time of day. Bato Springs Resort The resort also has two man-made falls, channelized into and surrounded by a big swimming pool. The main swimming pool is approximately 4 feet deep and contains a cavern covered by a stream of fallen water. This pool has two forms of waters, which you can sit around and have the flowing water massage your back.

4. Have fun at Nuvali

Nuvali is undoubtedly among the best spots in Laguna, surrounded by a blissful coat of greenery, to relax and recover from your wear and tear. Nuvali is committed to sustainable development and therefore built an atmosphere safer and greener for everyone to enjoy. It is situated in Brgy. Sta. Biking is certainly one of the best things you can do to take full advantage of the lush, vibrant nature and environment. And as Nuvali is encouraging environmentally friendly living, the whole city is surrounded by cycling paths that make cycling very convenient. You'll certainly be placed under a trance when you start cycling, and time is flying without you knowing it. Road bikes can be rented at Evozone Park. Because there are not many cars going through the network, some places have safe cycling routes.

This activity will allow you to appreciate even more nature and living beings. See the fish swarming for each fish food you feed. Situated on Solenad 1, you can feed those nice koi fishes that abound in the lake for ₱15.00 pesos by feed box. Kids with a large eye marvel like feeding the carps and trying to reach out.

The Republic Wakepark is an internationally renowned water sports facility within the Nuvali complex. The Republic Wakepark is being planned as the world's most recent and creative wakepark, which combines the best of water-skiing, surfing and snowboarding. The rates at the Republic Wakepark ranges from ₱250.00 per hour up to ₱995.00 for 8 hours during day rides, and ₱350.00 per hour up to ₱800.00 for 4 hours during night rides. Wakeboards are available for rentals for ₱350.00 per hour. There are also private coaching sessions which cost ₱750.00 per hour.

Nuvali is opening a Wildlife and Bird Sanctuary for bird walkers, watchers, nature fans and those who like to go beyond traditional nature trips. In partnership with the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines, The Nuvali Wildlife and Bird Sanctuary offer sight-decks, gazebos, footpaths and fun exhibits, as well as experiential exhibits for bird-watching lovers. This is not the habitual sight-watching activity but the perfect activities for people who want to immerse themselves fully into the wonders and creations of nature.

5. Visit Mt. Humarap and Matabungka Falls

Mt. Humarap is also known to be a popular pilgrimage site in Paete, Laguna, as Tatong Krus. During Holy Week people from Laguna and neighboring provinces flock to the mountain top to pray and to remember the sufferings on the cross of Jesus Christ. Looking over Paete town, Mt. Humarap is a place where the city's crowd reflects and relaxes.

Matabungka Falls is also a must visit site on Mt. Humarap. From a 10-15 minutes walk from Tatlong Krus, the place will show you the relatively clean and relaxing medium-sized waterfall. It will take 20-25 meters high and give you a calming view of the greens throughout the area. For a small group that wants to swim, the basin is pretty good.
